			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The most common question asked when buying a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: would I take an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, standing for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, which stands for ‘digital light processing’ are the two most popular projector imaging technologies. With so many brands and different types available, it can be overwhelming for clients to choose between those technologies. Ultimately LCD projectors offer superior image quality and colour accuracy. The following article tells you why DLP projectors struggle with bringing up a comparable rate of image quality.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s like a set of blinds in your room on your bedroom window. By pulling a rod you can have the shutters open or closed, depending on if you want to let light in or not. And that is exactly how an LCD projector functions. Each pixel operates like an individual shutter on a set of blinds to either allow light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is made up of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as professionals like to call them. Each pixel element operates to either reflect light or block it.</p>
<p>How the light source is processed from the point at which the projector turns on to when the image reaches your screen is ultimately significant with regard to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors shine white light from the lamp by separating it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which transfer the coloured light to 3 separate LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels cast the elements of the image by turning each pixel on and off. The pixels are then simultaneously processed in a glass prism to deliver the projector image. A point to remember about LCD projectors is that all three colours are sent onto your screen at once. The way a DLP projector works is vastly different and even how an image shows up is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is processed through a rotating colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This way of creating an image casts a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors as described above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to form the image elements. The elements of the image are projected in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer&#8217;s vision will then put together each coloured element of the image into a whole image. With LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to deliver the top level of brightness and fantastic colour accuracy. In DLP, only one colour is available at a time, and so causing lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some manufacturers have included a white segment for the colour wheel to improve brightness overall, but this also degrades colour accuracy.</p>
<p>I read in forums all the time that DLP gives a higher contrast ratio and ergo must be superior. For those who don&#8217;t know, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the projector is able to produce. DLP projectors do provide high contrast specifications compared to most LCD projectors. Initially, this must be a plus, however, in reality, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room when the projector is used. Do not be hoodwinked by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.</p>
<p>When the content you want to see needs moving images, DLP projection technology also has image imperfections, or ‘artifacts’. The most typical artifact that a DLP projector displays with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is unavoidable in DLP systems because moving images keep changing between the time red, blue and green colours are shone. LCD projectors do not have this characteristic because the colours are processed with the others. DLP builders have developed 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to answer the colour break up problem, but the expense of these projectors make them impractical for the large part of businesses and consumers.</p>
<p>Another point of difference between LCD and DLP is how they match the balance for the refractive qualities of light. Think back to high school science, and recall when they taught you how different colours of light refract varied amounts when shone through the same lens. The disadvantage with DLP projectors is that they have the one same panel and the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are obviously different and refract light differently. Usually with a DLP projector, an extra yellow colour will come up above and a superfluous blue will come up below an image of something as simple as a single black line. In building LCD projectors can be fixed to remove these effects on the projected image, as each colour is processed on separate LCD panels.</p>
<p>The only true buy point (excluding price) with buying a DLP projector is its overall smaller size and weight. However, this is only relevant to mobility and has to be traded off against the image advantages of LCD projectors. If the outcome of the picture quality is vital to you, then the choice is simple. Go with an LCD projector! LCD projectors will always produce bright, colourful images with fewer image mistakes. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As the Dutch rose to preeminence in sea power during the 17th century, the initial yacht had been a pleasure craft used mostly by royalty and then by the burghers on the canals as well as the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Racing was incidental, arising as private challenges. English yachting began with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his reaffirmation to the English throne in 1660, the city of Amsterdam sent him a 20-metre (66-foot) pleasure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he then named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, reigned 1685–88), built more yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and the same way back, on a Â£100 wager. Yachting was found to be fashionable with the affluent and aristocracy, but after that time the trend did not last.</p>
<p>The first yacht group in the British Isles, the Water Club, was formed around about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard organization, and held great naval panoply and rigour. The closest thing to racing boats was the “chase,” for which the “fleet” pursued a fictional enemy. The club persisted, for the large part as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, when merging with other societies, it became the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).</p>
<p>Yacht racing began in some stipulated manner on the Thames around the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland founded the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV came to the throne in 1820, it was named the Fleet to His Majesty&#8217;s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded after a racing dispute, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht society had been formed at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal funding made the Solent - the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight - the continued site of British yacht racing. The society at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, again at the rise of George IV. Every member was required to possess boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing tests for large bids were held, and the club life was splendid. Eventually Royal Yachting Club boats increased in size to over 350 tons.</p>
<p>In North America, yachting was first accomplished with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and continued when the English held power. Sailing was mostly for fun and found its epitome in George Crowinshield&#8217;s Cleopatra&#8217;s Barge (1815), which sailed on the Mediterranean Sea and established a benchmark of luxury and sophistication for the later yachts in the area from the late 19th century. The first continuing American yacht society, the Detroit Boat Club, was started in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens began the New York Yacht Club while aboard his schooner Gimcrack.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of sailboats<br /></strong>The Early sailing yachts took the lines of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century through to the second half of the 19th century. The craft of sizeable yachts was initially heavily put upon by the success of America, which was drawn by George Steers for a association led by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America&#8217;s Cup (q.v.) found its namesake after its success at Cowes in 1851. The first yachts were not designed and built in today&#8217;s sense, with merely a model being used. Not until the latter half of the 19th century did what was labeled naval architecture come about. Not until the 1920s did the application of the study of aerodynamics do for the craft of sails and rigging what such science had previously done for hulls.</p>
<p>Because nearly all sailboats were individually custom-built, there came a desire for handicapping boats as this was previous to the one-design class boats were built. Therefore, a rating rule was decreed, which ended up in the International Rule, accepted in 1906 and revised in 1919. Today, one of the fastest blossoming areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are manufactured to standard requirements in length, beam, sail area, and other areas (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing those boats can be done on an even playing field with no handicapping necessary. A perfect example is the uniform International America&#8217;s Cup Class taken on board for racers in the 1992 America&#8217;s Cup race.</p>
<p>For the time that yachting was done mostly for the nobility and the wealthy, expense was no issue, and the size of boats grew, in both length and weight. The promotion and preference of smaller boats occurred in the second half of the 19th century from the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A journey around the world (1895–98) sailed single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray proved the seaworthiness of small craft. Later in the 20th century, notably after World War II, smaller racing and pleasure craft became more popular, down to the dinghy, a preferred training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, yachts of less than 3 m were traveled in single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of power yachts<br /></strong>Post the decade 1840–50, in which steam began to take the place of sail power in commercial boats, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were employed increasingly in leisure vessels. Large power yachts were developed to a high element, and long-distance travel turned into a fond pastime of the well off. The first power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; they then made way to yachts powered by the fully submerged screw or propeller sort of propulsion. Like naval and merchant boats, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht archetype for a number of years. By the latter half of the 20th century, a lot of yachts were still auxiliaries, but the larger part were exclusively power yachts containing gasoline or diesel engines.</p>
<p>From the last decade of the 19th century there was a push in the construction of more sizeable steam yachts. Notably within these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, with triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was operated by a crew of over 150. The Mayflower, purchased by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and saw active service in World War II.</p>
<p>As more sizeable and better quality internal-combustion engines were developed, many big boats started using them for power. The creation of the diesel engine, with heavy oil for fuel, progressed during World War I. From the decade that followed, bigger power-yacht manufacture blossomed, hitting a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. During that time the largest auxiliary yacht built was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.</p>
<p>The construction of big power craft lessened after 1932, and the fashion thereafter was toward smaller, less expensive craft. Following World War II, a lot of small naval craft were traded by private owners for conversion to yachts. By the late 20th century, yachting has become a widespread beloved activity enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen personally owning and keeping their own small pleasure yachts. The number of boats and owners increased steadily, not only in the traditional areas by the seacoasts but also on inland waterways and lakes.</p>

A proportional tax is the kind that applies the same relative liability on every taxpayer—i.e., in the case where tax liability and income increase in relative scale. A progressive tax is recognised by a higher than proportional rise in the tax onus in relation to the growth in income, and a regressive tax is characterized by a less than proportional increase in the comparative liability. Ergo, progressive taxes are regarded as taking away the lack of equality in income distribution, but regressive taxes may have the effect of increasing these inequalities.</p>
<p>The taxes that are usually regarded as progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are nominally progressive, however, can become less so for the upper-income class—in particular if a taxpayer is able to lessen his tax base by declaring deductions or by taking certain income parts from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates that are applied to lower-income demographics could also be more progressive if exemptions of a personal nature are claimed.</p>
<p>Income measured over a given year may not necessarily provide the most appropriate measure of taxpaying ability. For example, transitory growth in income can be saved, and during temporary declines in income a taxpayer might elect to pay for consumption by reducing savings. Thus, if taxation is made comparable with “permanent income,” it can be less regressive (or more progressive) than when compared with annual income.</p>
<p>Sales taxes and excises (save those on luxuries) are mostly regressive, because the portion of one&#8217;s income consumed or spent on a specific good decreases as the level of personal income increases. Poll taxes (also termed head taxes), nominated as a flat amount per capita, patently are regressive.</p>
<p>It is hard to dictate corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, due to uncertainty surrounding the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of determining who bears the tax burden lays crucially on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being considered.</p>
<p>In assessing the economic purposes of taxation, it is important to differentiate between differing points of tax rates. The statutory rates will be dictated in the law; often these are marginal rates, but sometimes they are average rates. Marginal income tax rates signify the fraction of incremental income that is demanded by taxation when income rises by one dollar. Thus, if tax liability rises by 45 cents when income increases by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax legislature commonly contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that grow as income increases. Structured analysis of marginal tax rates should take into account provisions as well as the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) decreases by 20 cents for each one-dollar rise in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points more than indicated by the statutory rates. Since marginal rates signify how after-tax income increases or decreases in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the appropriate ones for assessing incentive effects of taxation.
